Pine Needle Baskets

During the 4-hour class, students will be able to finish a small approx. 4-5”diameter basket. The instructor will provide detailed hands-on guidance, including basic coiling techniques, different stitches, changing thread, and how to incorporate beads and embellishments. The basket will start with a pre-made center, and the students will be able to choose from a large variety of options. If time allows, the finished baskets will be lightly coated with natural bees wax to provide additional stability and structure.

About barbara snarr

Barbara, originally from Switzerland, lives with her husband on a small ranch in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, along with two dogs, a cat, sheep, goats and chickens. She discovered the art of pine needle basketry in 2020 and has since mastered the craft to the point that she started teaching classes in 2021. Many of her baskets feature hand-crafted centers made from sculpted clay, pyrography art on wood, paint, or hand-made resin designs. She exclusively uses pine needles from local Ponderosa pines. She is also a volunteer trainer at the local dog training club, and she is a passionate fiber artist who spins yarn from her own flock of sheep and knits it into beautiful garments.
